Splitting a page into frames is very confusing for search engines since frames break the fundamental user model of the web page. the usual problems are as follows:

• visitors cannot bookmark the current page and return to it
• Search engine confusion i.e. pages get index outside the frame set and will appear in the browser with out a menu
• Not all browsers support frames i.e. WebTV, text and early browsers
• You can only really market the index page the frame set sits in
• Make every page count as a doorway to your site. with frames you won't
• Page printing becomes impossible
• Navigation problems if the website is not properly linked together (pages can appear in the wrong window)
• Another site wants to link to a page on your site, but can't
